  • What is diamond drilling?

    Extraction of hard rock core samples which uses a rotary drill with a diamond drill bit. Diamond drilling services the mining and exploration industry.

    More scenic/rugged/remote settings. You are not just a number - Hy-Tech is smaller than many major oil and gas companies which means we get to know our employees. There is more room for advancement and a crew of two on the drill - Driller's have more responsibilities and make a lot of their own decisions.

  • Do I have to pay for my own travel and accommodations?

    No. Hy-Tech will arrange for travel and provide accommodations while at work.

  • What kind of training will I receive?

    Hy-Tech employees receive online training and hands-on training while on the site. This includes an introduction to Hy-Tech, legally required courses, and updates on equipment etc. First Aid renewals are also required. Hy-Tech will reimburse the cost of first aid renewals. New employees are required to apply with a valid first aid certificate that meets Hy-Tech standards.

  • Where do interviews take place?

    Interviews usually take place over the phone, unless you’re applying in Smithers or Saskatoon. Here, we’ll get a feel for what you’re all about and ask you any questions we have about potential as a fit. Here, we’re looking for you to meet the technical requirements of the position, but we’ll also be looking at your communication skills, and determining whether you’ll be a good fit with the rest of the team.

  • Are drug and alcohol screens required for employment?

    Yes, drug and alcohol tests are required for employment. We also conduct a Physical Demands Assessment, which was designed specifically for the Driller’s Helper position by a Physiotherapist in the Smithers area. This tests you for the real physical requirements you’ll face while you’re at work.

  • What is the work schedule?

    The schedule is typically 28 days of work, 14 days off (note: travel occurs during an employee’s 14 days off). As an employee, you can live anywhere in Canada – Hy-Tech will fly you from home to your work location (field only).
