Specialty core drilling.

Solutions for complex drilling challenges.

Hy-Tech offers directional drilling solutions when a program requires more than standard straight-hole diamond drilling. Our crews leverage advanced techniques that correct or steer drill holes, reach difficult targets, create multiple intersections from a single parent hole, or maintain accuracy in challenging geology.

Targeted methods that improve accuracy, efficiency, and value.

Our specialty services support projects where precision, control, or adaptability is essential. These methods help manage natural deviation, navigate complex formations, reduce unnecessary metres, and improve the overall success of a drilling program.

  • Directional steering using destructive drilling mud motors
  • Continuous-coring directional drilling Specialized wedging applications (by-pass and retrievable wedges)
  • Downhole surveying and deviation management
  • Branch hole creation from a single parent hole
  • Targeted corrections in complex or variable geology

Accurate downhole data for confident decision-making.

Reliable surveys are essential for understanding hole path and managing deviation. Our crews use industry-leading tools to measure azimuth, inclination, and deviation with precision at every stage. With consistent survey checks and quality data capture, we support accurate targeting, reduce uncertainty, and guide better decisions in challenging geology.

Reliable course correction through wedging.

Our crews have deep experience installing Steel and Clappison wedges to correct hole direction and ensure accurate intersections. Through continuous improvement, we’ve reduced rod pulls and standby time for cement, improving efficiency and value for clients. We install wedges to depths of up to 2,000 metres, providing dependable directional control in complex ground conditions.

Making the unpredictable, predictable.

Precise navigation drilling.

Our crews operate Navi-Drilling mud motors with proven results, steering holes to target depths of up to 1,200 metres. We can use the system to 900 metres and achieve up to 8° of deflection per 30 metres—all with a single rod pull and no need for a second rod string or specialized pumping equipment. It’s an efficient, predictable way to correct course in challenging ground.

Directional core drilling.

For programs that require deviating a hole while collecting core, we provide continuous-coring directional drilling using a variety of continuous coring tools. These systems deliver controlled steering, real-time measurement, and reliable guidance through complex geology. Working with our partners, we design directional strategies that improve accuracy, reduce uncertainty, and support successful target intersections.

FAQ

How deep can you perform directional drilling?

+

We typically steer holes with Navi-Drilling to depths of up to 900 metres and reach targets around 1,200 metres. Our wedging methods work to depths of up to 2,000 metres, and continuous-coring systems can be adapted to a wide range of program depths.

What types of wedges do you install?

+

Our crews install both Steel and Clappison wedges, choosing the method that best suits ground conditions, target requirements, and deviation needs.

Can multiple targets be reached from one hole?

+

Yes. With specialty techniques such as wedging or directional systems, we can create branch holes from a single parent hole, reducing cost and disturbance compared to drilling multiple new holes.

Do you provide downhole surveying?

+

Yes. We use industry-standard tools to measure azimuth, inclination, and deviation with precision, ensuring accurate data at every stage.
