Rooted in the Bulkley valley.
Our journey began in Smithers, British Columbia, in 1991, when founder Harvey Tremblay set out with a single drill and a clear idea: build a drilling company that could deliver safer, more dependable performance in even the toughest terrain. Trained as a carpenter, Harvey began in the exploration industry as a pad builder, where his technical mindset and curiosity led him to learn about drilling operations firsthand and eventually partner in a single-drill operation.
From humble beginnings to lasting impact.
But what started as a modest operation working seasonally gradually evolved into something much bigger, a business driven by innovation, integrity, and a commitment to solving real challenges with our clients. In 1992, the small team modified its first JKS 300 drill to increase productivity in remote locations. Hy-Tech learned quickly. The team solved site-specific challenges, and built tough, flexible equipment that could be relied on day in and day out. The company’s name, a shorthand for hydraulically inspired technology, reflected an approach rooted in practicality and invention.
Growing with intention.
Growth followed hard work, experience, and thoughtful innovation: from a single drill to an expanded fleet with additional capabilities and new configurations. In 1999, Hy-Tech achieved ISO Quality certification in Canada, formalizing the system that supports its field practices. The early 2000s marked a period of measured expansion, throughout Canada and Europe, including the addition of underground drilling capabilities in 2003. Throughout this evolution, the focus remained consistent: continuous improvement, preparedness, and predictable performance.
