The Tech 5000 was created to excel in the exact conditions that the KSM project offers: helicopter supported, deep drilling in mountainous terrain.
In 2007, Seabridge started an exploration project at KSM with the specific goal of completing holes to approximately 750 metres to test their deposit model. After a previous contractor was unable to reach depths greater than 600 metres on any hole, Hy-Tech Drilling was brought on late in the season. Arriving on October 9th, we were able to complete 2 holes to depth before being chased out by the snow.
Returning in the summer of 2008, Hy-Tech completed a total of 17,172 metres with 100% hole completion to all of the required depths. The project has continued every year since, and holes are now commonly 1000-1450 metres deep – over twice as deep as the last contractor was able to drill with their lightweight fly drill.
Today, the project is considered among the largest undeveloped gold projects in the world, with proven and probable reserves of 38.2 million ounces of gold and 9.9 billion pounds of copper.
